Lake Manyara National Park is a small but incredibly diverse park nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania. Despite its compact size, the park boasts an extraordinary range of ecosystems—lush groundwater forests, acacia woodlands, hot springs, and the alkaline lake that attracts thousands of flamingos and other bird species.
Known for its tree-climbing lions and large herds of elephants, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem and a perfect introduction to Tanzania’s wildlife. It’s also a fantastic destination for birdwatchers, with over 400 bird species recorded. Its proximity to Arusha and other major parks makes it an ideal stop on the northern safari circuit.

Lake Manyara is great year-round, but the dry season (June to October) offers the best game viewing. The wet season (November to May) is ideal for birdlife and lush scenery.
Lake Manyara offers a unique and serene safari experience that blends breathtaking scenery with diverse wildlife. It’s one of the few places in the world where lions are known to climb trees, making sightings rare and thrilling. The park’s forests, cliffs, and lake environments create excellent photography opportunities and a peaceful escape from busier parks like Serengeti and Ngorongoro. With opportunities for game drives, birdwatching, and even canoeing (seasonal), Manyara is a hidden treasure for safari lovers.
